Tribute to Miguel Delibes

This sculpture is a tribute to the writer Miguel Delibes on the centenary of his birth (1920-2020). He was born in Valladolid.

Created by sculptor Eduardo Cuadrado, it evokes an image of the literary figure that remains in the memory of the locals: Delibes wearing his raincoat, peaked cap, and umbrella, on one of his walks through the Campo Grande of Valladolid. It was a habit that the writer maintained throughout his life. Even on the coldest days, Miguel Delibes enjoyed his daily stroll in this romantic garden that left him with many joyful memories. It was here where he took his first steps, declared his love to his wife, Ángeles de Castro, and later enjoyed the childhood of his children and grandchildren.

Cuadrado has opted for a life-sized reproduction placed directly on the pavement, without a pedestal or base. Delibes is once again walking the streets of his life, surrounded by his fellow citizens.

The statue of Miguel Delibes is located in Zorrilla Square, next to the entrance of Campo Grande from Paseo del Príncipe.
