Tribute to Rosa Chacel

The sculpture 'Homenaje a Rosa Chacel', inaugurated in 1996, is the work of Luis Santiago Pardo.

It depicts the Valladolid-born writer resting on a bench with a rose on her lap, at life-size scale. Beside her, a book and her jacket accompany the author of 'Memorias de Leticia Valle' (Memories of Leticia Valle).

Born as Rosa Clotilde Cecilia María del Carmen Arimón in 1898, she was raised on Núñez de Arce Street. Her close relationship with the city goes back generations: she was the great-niece of José Zorrilla, also a native of Valladolid. Despite moving to Madrid as a child and spending time in exile, Rosa Chacel always kept her ties with her hometown alive. She returned to Valladolid on numerous occasions, such as during the filming of 'Una muchachita de Valladolid', based on one of her novels, the tribute dedicated to her at the Book Fair in 1983, and to receive the title of honorary daughter of the city in 1988. Furthermore, Rosa Chacel rests in the Panteón de los Ilustres at the Valladolid cemetery.
