Valladolid in two days

IN THE MORNING

Yesterday we visited the most important historical sites in the city, but Valladolid has much more to offer. Always on foot, we can walk along the riverside of the Pisuerga, where we find the futuristic Dome of the Millennium, a romantic rose garden and even a sandy beach. From its pier, La Leyenda del Pisuerga, the famous pucelano boat, departs.Without leaving the historic centre, we recommend that you visit one of the five municipal exhibition halls, which are completely free of charge, and two houses with a lot of history: the one where José Zorrilla was born and the only one in Spain of those where Miguel de Cervantes lived.

If you prefer to spend the morning enjoying the nature that Valladolid hides, we recommend one of the most pleasant walks -and with history- in the city, the Canal de Castilla. From the Puente Mayor, right in the centre, there is a 3 kilometres path that will take you through a dock and a botanical garden to one of the Canal's best preserved locks. You can link this walk with the climb to the Fuente del Sol park, where you will get one of the best views of the city.

AT NOON

If you would like to learn more about the wine culture of Valladolid, a province where five Denominations of Origin converge (Ribera de Duero, Rueda, Cigales, Toro and León), or take a bottle home with you, you can visit numerous wine shops and specialized stores:

  • Señorita Malauva (Arribas Street, Cathedral)
  • La Casa del Gusto (Cascajares Street)
  • De Uvas a Brevas (c/Madre de Dios Junto a Hospital Clínico)
  • The Wine Boutique (Nuñez de Arce Street)
  • Majuelos Singulares (San Ignacio Street)
  • Deseo Vino (San Blas street)
  • El Buen Gusto (Manuel Silvela Street)

We know you won't get tired of Valladolid's tapas! For this second day you can go into new tapas areas -they stand out, apart from the area between Plaza Mayor and Plaza de Martí y Monsó, the area of Calle Paraíso, Plaza de la Universidad, Plaza de San Miguel and Paseo de Zorrilla- or, if you prefer to delight your palate with a more forceful flavour, enjoy a good lechazo, one of the most delicious meats in the area.

IN THE AFTERNOON

Valladolid is a city with a wide cultural offer. You can spend the afternoon visiting some of its museums - we have the best collection of polychrome wood in the National Museum of Sculpture and the best collection of oriental art in the country in the Museum of Oriental Art, a great catalogue of contemporary Spanish works in the Patio Herreriano and, ideal if you come with children, the interactive Museum of Science. In addition, in the afternoon and evening you will find quality theatre, dance, music or family shows at the Teatro Calderón and the Laboratorio de las Artes de Valladolid.

Do you prefer sports? Then you can't miss a good game of rugby on the Campo Pepe Rojo supporting the city's teams -the best in Spain!- the VRAC Quesos Entrepinares and the Silverstorm El Salvador. You have football at the José Zorrilla Stadium, handball at the Huerta del Rey Sports Centre and, surely, your visit will coincide with one of the many national or international competitions that make up the city's sports calendar or with charity races that the locals are keen to take part in.

Take advantage of the nightfall to discover a completely different Valladolid. The lighting of the historic centre, which has won international awards, invites you to once again explore a city with a dreamlike air, flooded by Rivers of Light.

Complete your visit

On weekends you have the opportunity to discover Valladolid from the point of view of a ghost that wanders around recalling the darkest episodes of the city, that of the queens who lived here or that of an archaeologist who ventures into crypts. The Tourist Office has a programme of dramatized visits that tell legends or give a twist to the pink chronicle of the Court; as well as walks through archaeological treasures that are closed
to the public.
