10 razones para visitar Valladolid - Pingüinos

Pingüinos

In 2023, Pingüinos once again establishes itself as the most important motorcycle gathering in Spain and one of the most attended in Europe, with a new record of participation: 43,316 registrations.

A long history and tens of thousands of bikers endorse Pingüinos as the main winter motorcycle gathering in Europe. Not even the harsh freezes that hit Valladolid every January - the gathering takes place on the first weekend after Three Kings' Day - manage to diminish the "Pingüinero" flame that burns in the premises of the former Military Equestrian Center, the established venue of the gathering.

A true penguin is not afraid of the cold. The icy January of the plateau is no obstacle to enthusiastically face the colorful flag parade or the nighttime torchlight procession, the most emotional event of the gathering, where motorcyclists who have passed away each year on the road are remembered with a torch for each loss. At its conclusion, the thousands of participants gather in Plaza Mayor, sheltered by the night and with raised flames, creating an overwhelming and impressive sight.

These are already traditional events in the Pingüinos program, along with others such as the Pingüinera New Year's Eve, which replaces grapes with pine nuts; freestyle and stunt shows; and the presentation of the Golden and Honor Penguin Awards, recognitions that have already been awarded to personalities from the world of two wheels such as Alex Crivillé, Valentino Rossi, Dani Pedrosa, Ángel Nieto, Fonsi Nieto, or Izán Guvara.

Within the "Penguin's Nest," brotherhood is felt. How many friendships have been forged around the passion for two wheels! The pine forest that becomes their home for a few days, the concerts that liven up each night, the lively Pingüinera New Year's Eve, and the wines, coffees, and breakfasts that help warm up are good excuses to strike up a conversation with another motorcyclist.

The thrilling journey of Pingüinos began in 1982, with just 320 brave souls who, led by the Turismoto club, dared to face the rain and freezes (although, for organizational reasons, that first edition is the only one that took place in March). The event has passed through other locations before its final establishment in Valladolid in 2009. That year, more than 18,000 participants were surpassed, and temperatures close to historic lows of ten degrees below zero were reached. Since the following edition, participation has not dropped below 22,000, and in 2023 it surpasses the 40,000 registration mark.
