City of Culture

Valladolid is a city of culture. It is dedicated to all forms of performing arts, from theater and opera to dance and contemporary circus, as well as all genres of music, from flamenco to jazz and rock, and to art and visual expressions. Our cultural agenda stands out for its high quality and variety.

Valladolid is the only Spanish city included in the Network of European Cities for Artistic Creation. It's not surprising in a city that houses some of the best museums in the country: the National Museum of Sculpture and its impeccable collection, the finest in Europe for polychrome wood; the Patio Herreriano Museum of Contemporary Art, a valuable center to discover 20th-century art and new creative trends; the only original house of Miguel de Cervantes preserved in Spain, now the Cervantes House Museum; and the best collection of Far Eastern art in the country, housed in the Oriental Museum, are all in Valladolid.

Children and families will enjoy learning at the Science Museum, with its multitude of interactive exhibitions. They can also immerse themselves in literature and romanticism at the José Zorrilla House-Museum, the birthplace of the author of "Don Juan Tenorio". The municipal galleries program high-quality art exhibitions. It is common to find works by Picasso, Dalí, Miró, Sorolla... that can be visited in the city center free of charge.

Whatever your musical taste, Valladolid has something for you.

The Laboratory of Arts in Valladolid (LAVA) hosts the Valladolid JAZZ festival in November, the Tónal cycle dedicated to independent pop music in autumn, and the Flamenco Days in June.

The festival season kicks off in our city in June with Conexión Valladolid, eclectic and explosive.

In the summer, music is enjoyed in the open air. The summer season features concerts in the Patio de San Benito, the venue for the Noches en San Benito and the International Jazz Festival Universijazz in July.

There are many other music series you will find when you visit Valladolid. We even have programs dedicated to Holy Week music (Voces de Pasión) and plucked instruments (Muestra de Plectro, associated with the festivities of San Pedro Regalado). Valladolid is also home to the Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra (OSCyL), which performs at the Miguel Delibes Cultural Center throughout the season.
