10 razones para visitar Valladolid - Deporte

Sports

Valladolid is a national benchmark in numerous sports disciplines, both for its teams and the tournaments it hosts. One of the most popular events is the Valladolid Masters (in 2023, from June 17th to 25th), a World Padel Tour circuit event that brings together the best paddle tennis players of the moment. The tournament was chosen in 2022 as the best professional tournament of the year at the Padel Spain World Padel Awards.

Among the sports in which the city excels is rugby, with two of the best teams in the country: VRAC Quesos Entrepinares and El Salvador. Together, they have won almost 50 titles in the Division of Honor, including leagues, Copa del Rey, Supercopa, and Iberian Cups. It is no surprise that they set attendance records when they played in front of 26,000 spectators in the Copa del Rey final that pitted them against each other in 2017.

Real Valladolid, in the top division of football, is the most important football team in Castilla y León. The blanquivioleta (white-violet) fans have witnessed triumphs such as the now-defunct Copa de la Liga or qualification for the UEFA Cup. They play their home matches at the José Zorrilla stadium, with a capacity for over 26,500 people.

Other top-level teams include the handball teams Aula Cultural (female) and Atlético de Valladolid (male), the Valladolid Table Tennis Club, the Valladolid Wheelchair Basketball team, the Valladolid Fencing Club, CPLV in hockey, and the Canoe and Cisne clubs in canoeing. On the other hand, the Club Baloncesto Ciudad de Valladolid, founded in 2015, competes in the LEB Oro League.

Valladolid hosts important tournaments every year. In recent years, it has been a regular venue for national championships in artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, table tennis, lifeguarding and lifesaving, trampoline and artistic gymnastics, among many other disciplines.

It is a national benchmark in rugby: in 2017, it hosted the Copa del Rey final with the most spectators in the history of our country.

On the international stage, it has been the host city for events such as the Under-20 European Volleyball Championship and the European Trampoline Gymnastics Championship. In the past, it has also hosted a FIFA World Cup and a Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup.
